What this tool actually does

This converter builds the .rtf file directly from your Markdown structure — headings become sized, bold heading text; **bold** and *italic* become real character formatting; lists become indented bullet or numbered paragraphs; blockquotes become an indented, italicized block; and fenced code becomes monospaced text. The result is an editable document, not an image or a locked PDF.

Honest limitations

RTF is a much older, simpler format than a modern .docx file, so it doesn't support things like embedded images or complex tables — for a Markdown file made of headings, paragraphs, and lists (which covers the large majority of real-world Markdown), that limitation rarely comes up.
